Sammanfattning:
Packaging design starts with a clear understanding of what the package needs to do. But those creatively functional packages, designed to solve problems—protecting and preserving product, or deterring theft—can deplete resources and create tons of waste. Is it possible to design packaging that is both sustainable and functional? That considers the planet, but does not cost the earth?
Agenda:
The following topics will be covered in this course: 1. Package Functions – containment/protection, communication, and utility. 2. Environmental Effects of Packaging – understanding the harmful effects that both the manufacture of packaging and packaging waste can have on the environment is the first step toward mitigating the effects. 3. Regulations and Laws – a review of how governments are regulating the manufacture and disposal of products, and a look at how suppliers' and consumers' demands are changing packaging. 4. Guidelines for Package Design – sustainable packaging considers not only the environment, but also the people who use the package and the economics of manufacturing and disposing of the package. 5. Factors to Consider in Sustainable Package Design – changing the design of a packaging system can affect much more than just the package. This section covers some of the tradeoffs to consider in sustainable package design.
KursmĂĄl:
When you have successfully completed this course, you should be able to: Describe the functions of packaging, Discuss the effects that packaging has on the environment, Discuss the different approaches – regulations/laws, financial incentives, bans, competitive pressures – to managing the environmental effects of packaging, Discuss guidelines for designing sustainable packaging systems, Summarize the factors to consider when designing a package system that is both sustainable and functional across the supply chain.
SKU: Sustainability in Packaging: Overview
In this course, we look at sustainability in packaging as a practical matter: a sustainable package that functions as it should and appeals to consumers will have a good outcome – consumers will buy the product. Packages that are not sustainable invite government intervention, competitive pressures, and consumer rejection. This course covers the relationship between packaging decisions and the sustainability of the resulting packaging system.
