Development of the operations strategy requires several decisions. The resulting strategy must be consistent with and supportive of the other strategies of the firm. Making these decisions requires an understanding of product decisions, the effects of product life cycle on operations strategy, and product characteristics related to volume and variety. The areas of structure choices include organizational design, capacity strategy, product and process technologies used and facility location, scale, and layout.
