Jabil Circuit uses Six-Sigma quality criteria to rate supplier performance

Författare:

"We use Six Sigma criteria and push our suppliers to have zero defects," says Erich Hoch, chief supply chain officer for Jabil. Using Six Sigma, causes of product defects are identified and removed from a manufacturing process. The goal is to reduce variability in manufacturing and having a consistent process using statistical process control.

...But cost is not the highest weighted criteria in evaluating supplier performance for Jabil. The EMS industry is a low-margin business and EMS providers do an effective job leveraging their purchases with suppliers to get the lowest cost. But in Jabil's case, while cost is important, product quality is the highest rated criteria, accounting for 75% of a supplier's overall score.

Growing Number of Companies are Combining the Two Disciplines to Remove Waste and Increase Consistency of Processes.

In the past, Lean and Six Sigma have at times been viewed almost as rival methodologies, with some companies choosing one or the other as their primary improvement vehicle.

There is a great and to a large extent unexploited potential in applying advanced quality management, in particular the Six Sigma toolbox, to the problem of logistic variations and complexity.
Today's companies strive to be focused on customers and to be quality leaders. The decisive factor is the company's ability to execute the key business processes and fulfil the customers' expectations. However, many companies suffer from shortfalls in their logistics. Efficient logistics management requires that unpredictable variations and uncertainties are minimized, that unnecessary complexity of logistic structures, systems and processes is avoided and that the information flow is managed in a constructive way. lĂ€s mer »
